It had
been empty for about 15 years, apart from the horses and sheep
that had taken up residence to shelter from the wind and rain.
It is 1,000 feet above sea level and, although 15 miles inland,
we can see out to the Atlantic at Kenmare Bay. We have 2 acres
of wooded land around us, and the freshest air you could wish
for. We are in the process of restoring the farmhouse and
attached barn when we are not out playing music at the great
music sessions around the area. The sessions vary from Irish trad to contemporary to folk and country and some self-penned
songs and music.
If you are
into music and nature and have not yet visited this part of the
world, it's well worth the trip. We have produced one original
album "At Home In Our Hearts" since coming here , as well as
several others, and a number of live session CDs.
In our previous lives we were
civil servants in the UK and had both suffered quite serious
illnesses that left us with no choice but to leave the rat-race
behind and find a better quality of life. We are firmly of the
opinion that life is for living, and we should all make the best
of what time we have.
Since coming here to live, we
have had the most enriching, diverse, challenging and rewarding
times of our lives, and we hope for many more years and
challenges to come! They say that the way to stay young is to
keep doing new things and learning new skills, well this is just
the place to do that!
Musically, we both sing and, between us, play Guitar, Hurdy
Gurdy (Marie), Tenor Banjo, Northumbrian Pipes and Mandolin. |
